St Ives Interprint Competition 2023
Held at The Free Church, Market Hill, St Ives on Saturday 25th February 2023
The Interprint competition has been running for many years now and is regarded as a prestigious event within the EAF calendar. It is preceded by an all-day exhibition of the prints, with the competition itself taking place in the evening. Entry is limited to just 20 clubs, each of which enters 6 prints.
I’m a photographer who very much prefers the printed image to a PDI, so seeing 120 prints all beautifully displayed was something special, especially as the quality of the work was so high. This is only to be expected given the status of the competition.
The judge for the evening was Chris Palmer FRPS EFIAP DPAGB APAGB. Chris (who some of you will recall judged our open competition in November) is not only a hugely talented photographer, as his postnominals bear witness, but a hugely experienced national and international judge as well as an RPS assessor. Unsurprisingly, those of us lucky enough to be there on Saturday evening were treated to a masterclass in judging and commentary.
In contrast to the ‘disappointing’ result we achieved in the EAF PDI Championships, I’m delighted to say that we came a very respectable 4th equal in the Interprint, tying with Deepings CC and Kings Lynn CC with a score of 101. The competition was won by PICO with 108 marks; Ipswich CC was second with 105 and St Ives third with 104.
Our Entries:
Our next external competition is the 3-Way with Bedford and Biggleswade, which this year is being hosted by Bedford. It will take place on Tuesday 7th March and start promptly at 7:30pm. The venue is Scott Primary School, Hawk Drive, Bedford MK41 7JA. It would be great if as many Ampthill members as possible can go along to support our club – in doing so you will see 10 of our best prints (half of which were at St Ives) as well as 10 each of Bedford’s and Biggleswade’s best prints. The second part of the evening will be the PDI section, with 10 images from each of the three clubs, so it will definitely be worth the effort to go. Unfortunately, I am unable to attend as I shall be in Glasgow but hopefully someone will text me the result!
Two days later, on 9th March, we’re competing in the Central Club Challenge at Milton Keynes City Photographic Society, which meets at Church Hall, Stantonbury Campus, Milton Keynes, MK14 6BN. The competition (6 PDIs per club) starts at 8pm. Sadly, this clashes with Ruth Grindrod’s talk to ADCC, but I shall be MK and will let you know how we fare shortly afterwards.
