2023 Cambridge Digital Interclub

As most of you know, Ampthill won this competition last year, which was entered by 25 clubs within the East Anglian Region.  Naturally, we were keen to defend our title so we entered it again this year.

The competition took place yesterday afternoon at Whittlesford Memorial Hall, near Cambridge.  I’m pleased to say that, although we didn’t manage to retain our title, we didn’t disgrace ourselves either, coming 12th out of 27 participating clubs.  Our position in the results table actually sounds much worse than it is when you consider that only 5 points separated the top 11 clubs, and we were 12th, only 6 points off the winning score.

Each club was required to enter one image in each of 5 sections – monochrome, people, landscape, nature and open.  The judge ended up giving a lot of 20’s and in fact no fewer than 12 of the 27 nature images scored a 20, with the lowest mark for a nature image being 18, of which there were only 5.

Many thanks to Lee Odell LRPS, Gary Chester LRPS, Angela Dunn and Paul Tapping for their participating images, displayed here – and to Paul Wilson for his tie-breaker, which sadly we didn’t end up using!

Our next external competition is the EAF PDI Championships, about which I emailed everyone last week.  These will take place on 12th February at Foxton Village Hall, also near Cambridge.  There’ll be a similar number of participating clubs (25 or so) but in round one alone there’ll be about 375 images, with another 100 or so in round two.  It’s an absolute feast of photography so remember to get in touch with me within the next few days if you’d like a ticket.
